WASHINGTON COUNTY—CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or to upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume and cover letter writing software, Internet access, and O’Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.

“In our tightening labor market, Maine CareerCenters provide the tools and resources to better connect job seekers and employers,” said Governor Paul R. LePage. “Workshops and one-on-one consultations facilitated by the their career consultants can provide job seekers a path to education or jobs. Employers will find information and connections to employment and training resources that can help serve immediate or forecasted workforce needs. Essentials of College Planning - Maine Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC)

This workshop introduces people to educational opportunities in general and Maine Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC) services in particular and touches on the four steps in the college process: admissions, financial aid, career and study skills. The admission section reviews college options, the college search process and the application structure. The fundamentals of financial aid, including the filing process and the applications are covered in detail. Career options and counseling are introduced. Financial Aid - Maine Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC)

The Financial Aid Workshop provides an overview of financial basics and the completion of the Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Discussion will include a review of the federal, state, school-based, and private funding sources. Upon completion of this workshop the student will be able to effectively access the funding they need to complete their college degree. An emphasis will be placed on student responsibility and an understanding of the full financial process and timetable. Participants should bring their last year’s income details to the workshop. Participants should be current college students or prospective college students who have attended an earlier session of Essentials of College Planning Workshop with MEOC.
